A group of escaped coltan miners and hackers form an anti-colonialist collective in an inhospitable mountainous region of Central Africa in order to overthrow the authoritarian and dictatorial regime that exploits the area’s natural resources and people. Staged as a queer Afrofuturist fantasy, NEPTUNE FROST fluctuates between musical, sci-fi parable, and ecofeminist hacker manifesto. This joint directorial work by US spoken word artist and musician Saul Williams and Rumanian filmmaker and actress Anisia Uzeyman premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021.
