The last days of a village on the Dnieper river is experiencing its last days: it will soon be flooded by a vast dam and all its inhabitants will be resettled. The people of the village get together with those who have now moved to the towns in the meantime in order to bid farewell to the place of their childhood for one last time. Memory, transformation and modernization merge to form a saga of progress in which voice and perspective flow freely back and forth between different protagonists and the megalomaniacal dimension of the dam project is contrasted with pensive inner monologues. Miniature narratives involving different people tell of the longing for love and of grief and pain. (al)
