Paris at the start of the 90s. At a historical moment where the political is of existential significance for HIV-positive people and their friends, two Aids activists face society ignorance and the fear of death with frenzied resistance and a boisterous desire for life. Based on personal experiences, Robin Campillo reconstructs the controversial debates and actions carried out by the ACT UP group in highly detailed fashion. This piece of history develops its sense of testimony from the melodrama of its tear-jerking central love story. (Christian Weber) – “The past can only be quoted, not repeated. So Campillo dares to do something impossible: he dissolves boundaries and yet doesn’t ignore their power. In an image and sound montage marked by feelings and ideas alike, the present and the historical, today and tomorrow, all merge while still retaining their autonomy.” (Sascha Westphal, sissy)
