The plot is narrated from the radically subjective point of view of Alexander, who is first shown as a child and later an adult, in which different times flow into one another in associative fashion and war and childhood idylls stand in stark contrast to one another. For critic Jonathan Rosenbaum, ENCHANTED DESNA is “less an extension of the work of Dovzhenko than a giddy dream inspired by him” and “one of the most ravishing spectacles ever made, an ecstatic riot of color and sound.” (al)
