THE GODFATHER PART III (USA 1990) begins in 1979: The family is back in New York and Michael Corleone has distanced himself from the business of drugs and casinos. He has plans to invest his millions legally, in a European real estate group, in which the Vatican Bank also has a stake. Adversaries within his own camp and machinations in the Vatican foretell a family tragedy. To mark the film's 30th anniversary in 2020, Coppola released a new and shorter version (by five minutes) called Mario Puzo's The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone. We will screen a contemporaneous 70mm print from the 1990s, with Finnish and Swedish subtitles in 1:1.85. (Hans-Joachim Fetzer)
