NASTROYSHCHIK is a film about greed and deception, about trusting people who are immediately exploited, about false expectations, economic dependence, about the power of money, which is more important than love and friendship. A penniless musician is persuaded by his extravagant, unscrupulous girlfriend to pose as a piano tuner in order to make contact with a rich widow and defraud her. This satirical comedy about a capitalism completely out of control taking over people’s feelings and thoughts was filmed by Muratova in unusually linear fashion. (al)
