Solaris

In this adaptation of Stanislaw Lem’s eponymous novel, inner and outer space meet. At a space station that hovers above the planet Solaris, all the scientists and the newly arrived psychologist Kelvin experience the materialization of their repressed memories. For example, Kelvin sees a double of his late wife Hari. Tarkovsky did not make his adaptation as a genre film, despite the elements of science fiction. Far from Earth, SOLARIS negotiates the limits of being human. (lb)
