A shy red-head with freckles – young, introverted hairdresser’s assistant Béatrice (Isabelle Huppert) seems to look at life from the margins, whether at the hair salon’s customers, at her only friend, who is looking for amorous adventures, or at the equally shy François, a philosophy student from a rich family who she falls in love with during a rainy holiday by the sea. When her love is shattered by his snobbery and his inability to perceive her tender internal state, Béatrice loses her grip on life.
