Tucked into helmets, tied to arms and legs, woven into nets: a dozen small action cameras are swirled around, submerged, dropped into tubs full of blood and innards. The setting is the high sea before New England, where a nocturnal fishing trawler catches fish in grand style and immediately processes them, with the footage from the aforementioned cameras countering standard seafaring romanticism with pure chaos and total disorientation. This cinematic wrestling with the titular Old Testament sea monster produces an immersive experience that takes physicality to the limit, an often challenging collision of abstraction and cinema at its most overpowering.
