Big Cinema, Small Cinema #68

Rustling, hissing, echoes, distant melodies: the soundtrack has allowed us to hear this and more since the introduction of sound film. In early cinema, musicians and foley artists provided the sound in the movie theater. Today, the soundscapes come into the cinema via several channels. Before we conduct our own sound experiments, we will discover what can be seen and heard in six short films: In LE MOBILIER FIDÈLE (Émile Cohl, F 1910), furniture miraculously remains faithful to its former owner. A MAN AND HIS DOG OUT FOR AIR (Robert Breer, USA 1957) takes us on a walk and WHAT MOZART SAW ON MULBERRY STREET (Rudy Burckhardt, Joseph Cornell, USA 1956) brings us to a street in New York. ANODYNE (Sheri Wills, USA 2002) and LOST (Karø Goldt, G 2003) experiment with colors, shapes and sound. In KITCHEN BEETS (Bea Haut, UK 2019), everyday things appear and disappear. (Eunice Martins)
