A woman's life in 20th century Georgia: after losing her true love, Georgi, Eva marries a man she actually detests. Her life also comes under pressure because of the political situation. The at first alien Soviet era brings with it new concepts of the enemy, collectivization leaves victims in its wake and leads to the desolation of village life, intimate desires are swallowed up by world events. Opulently staged and filmed against an impressive mountainous backdrop, the songs and scenes performed by a group of wandering actors serve as a counterpoint.
