zu den Ticketszu dem KalenderThere is hardly a film by Aki Kaurismäki that does not touch on working life in one form or another, usually monotonous, often full of privation and sometimes only of short duration. The "Proletariat Trilogy" brings together early works by Kaurismäki, featuring his regular cast: Matti Pellonpää and Kati Outinen.
TULITIKKUTEHTAAN TYTTÖ: Iris (Kati Outinen) works on an assembly line in a noisy match factory. During the day, the monotony of the factory prevails, in the evenings it's the unkindness of her parents. A night spent with Aarne is followed by a bitter awakening. At the end of the minimally staged ordeal, Iris mercilessly strikes back and plots her liberation. Despite its sophisticated color dramaturgy, this final part of the "Proletariat Trilogy" remains the darkest of Aki Kaurismäki's cinematic worlds.
