Erol, Ahmed and Leyla live with their parents in Berlin's Kreuzberg district. The father is Turkish and the mother German. When Erol (Tamer Yiğit) is out and about in the area between Kottbusser Tor and Görlitzer Bahnhof, as he often is, he always meets someone he owes money to. While Ahmed (Savaş Yurderi) is calmly heading towards his exams and the witty Leyla (Serpil Turhan) is doing a sewing apprenticeship, Erol is a drifter. His only prospect is military service in Turkey, which he wants to do despite being criticized for this. Family quarrels, love affairs, small escapades, slang, and long walks through the area of SO 36 - in every scene, observation of daily life is mixed with formal concentration, anchoring the film firmly in the experiences of German-Turkish youths, who are played by non-professionals.
