Sanxia haoren

Fengjie is literally sinking. The town on the Yangtze is already half-flooded, and the upper part will also lie below the surface of the water in future because of the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. A constant hammering testifies to the omnipresent demolition work, drowned out only by the official hymns of praise for the dam project. Sanming and Shen Hong (Zhao Tao) come here to look for their former partners. The investigation proves difficult, with relatives and friends keeping a low profile. The two move like ghosts through the sinking city, whose remains are of a strangely surreal beauty. (mg)
