72 editions of Big Cinema, Small Cinema! Since 2016, Ute Aurand, Robert Beavers, Anna Faroqhi, Eunice Martins, Haim Peretz and Stefanie Schlüter have been putting on special film programs for children once a month at Arsenal. Entitled FILM TRICK TRICK FILM, the 73rd edition is now taking place at silent green, where its annual Winterfest is being held on 1.12. The program revolves around film tricks and animated films. KRATZIG 3 – ALLES BEWEGT SICH WIE VON SELBST (2010), made at a Kreuzberg elementary school, makes pens wander into pencil cases seemingly of their own volition and chairs stamp their way through the snow. Colorful hula hoops make children disappear in HOOP LOOP (2020) by Japanese artist Keitaro Oshima. In A CHAIRY TALE (Kanada 1957) by Norman McLaren and Claude Jutra, a chair develops a life of its own in amusing fashion and brings a man to the brink of desperation in the process. MY SCHOOL (2023) by Keitaro Oshima was made with the help of many children: in an animation studio specially set up for the purposes, they drew hundreds of individual images from everyday life at school.
