In the midst of the Second World War, an American tank at the Libyan front in North Africa is fighting a losing battle. The German army is advancing from three different directions, while the endless expanse of the desert opens up as  the only remaining avenue of escape. Out of necessary, the crew decide to withdraw into the Sahara. On their way, scattered soldiers from the United Kingdom, France and Sudan end up joining them, as well as a German pilot after his plane is shot down. SAHARAcontrasts the Allies’ willingness to cooperate across cultural differences with the blind obedience and racist hatred of the Nazis. The Italian prisoner of war represents a humanity that has been preserved in the face of ideological blindness and that already carries the seed of reconciliation following the end of the war.
