French experimental filmmaker Babette Mangolte has been living and working in New York since the 70s. As a cinematographer, she has worked with such filmmakers as Chantal Akerman, Yvonne Rainer, Michael Snow, Richard Foreman and Sally Potter. VISIBLE CITIES (1991) tells the story of two women in search of home in the landscape of southern California. They witness how the architectural landscape that has been imposed on the Californian desert appears like an inversion of nature in which exclusive living, closed residential facilities and segregation go hand in hand. The programme also includes the shorts (NOW) OR MAINTENANT ENTRE PARENTHÈSES (1976), WATER MOTOR (1987), CALICO MINGLING (1973)and THERE? WHERE? (1979).
