Želimir Žilnik's latest film RESTITUCIJA, ILI, SAN I JAVA STARE GARDE follows the 80+ Milan Kovačević, alias Stevan Arsin, from Vienna (where he “reacquires” LPs by his own 1960s jazz band “Montenegro Five” in a second-hand bookshop) to Serbia, where the state restores his once expropriated family home - a matter that he approaches with solidarity, in complete opposition to the prevalent greed for property. As tongue-in-cheek and subversive as ever, Žilnik explores the post-socialist country and its society with the charm of advanced age and amateur actors. Making Early Works in 1969, and "Late Works" now, his eye for the political and social on the margins remains sharp. (bw)
