  • Introduction (in English language): Flora Dias

Many centuries after colonialism began, the Indigenous people of the Guarani Kaiowá are still fighting for their rights and their land - against large landowners, the powerful machine of agribusiness and the government. MARTÍRIO is an impressive monument to this persistent struggle. Vincent Carelli first documented attempts to dispossess the indigenous people and drive them off their land with threats, attacks and unjust laws in the 1980s. Some 15 years later, he picked up the thread again. Historical archive footage, new film material in color and black and white, hearings in the Brazilian Congress and interviews with opponents of the Guaraní Kaiowá reveal the terrifying violence, with which they have to live with on a daily basis.
