The monthly film program “In Search of Lost Visions” focuses on ideals of democratic and diverse cultures. It presents films that highlight the struggles of emancipation movements and are directed against oppression and colonialism. The program is intended to encourage and invite people to exchange ideas. In April, UNITED IN ANGER: A HISTORY OF ACT UP (Jim Hubbard, USA 2012) will be shown. The AIDS epidemic in the late 1980s was marked, among other things, by the initial inaction of governments, above all the Reagan administration in the US. More and more people began to oppose the politics of ignorance and repression. At the same time, the battle was being fought on deathbeds and in people's own bodies. ACT UP was founded in New York in 1987 to bring more dynamism and politicization to the issue of AIDS through action and to exert political pressure through lobbying. Jim Hubbard's film tells of the planning and implementation of half a dozen actions organized by ACT UP. (Jens Schneiderheinze)
