Taxi driver Paolo (Marcello Mastroianni) drives two young men accompanied by the attractive Lina (Sophia Loren) to the beach in Ostia, where they try to convince him to go swimming with her. Warned by an alarm, Paolo is only just able to prevent the two men from stealing the taxi. When Paolo wants to tell Lina’s father (Vittorio De Sica) about his daughter’s bad behavior, he has absolutely no idea about the criminal energy of the Stroppiani family... The first meeting of the duo Loren-Mastroianni was a breakthrough for both of them. As a crook specialized in stealing luggage, Vittorio De Sica can be seen in one of his star comedic roles. (hjf)
