(Camera)Work: Henry Graham (Walter Matthau) is a man who prefers an easy life; having squandered his fortune, he is forced to hunt for a bride. He has his sights set on the rich, extremely clumsy heiress and botanist Henrietta Lowell (Elaine May). Hollywood women directors, especially those who made comedies, could be counted on the fingers of one hand at the time. One of my favorite lines in the film: “You dare call me a son of a bitch? Madam, I have seen many examples of perversion in my time, but your erotic obsession with your carpet is probably the most grotesque and certainly the most boring I have ever encountered.
