As part of our series of analogue projections in large-screen format, this month we are showing David Fincher's cinema debut ALIEN 3 (USA 1992). After their mission on planet LV 426, Lieutenant Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and her team are on their way back to earth. When a fire breaks out on board the spaceship, the crew is forced to make an emergency landing in an escape pod on the remote planet of Fiorina 161, where there is a prison colony for hard criminals with XYY syndrome. The sole survivor of the crash landing, Ripley ends up in the penal colony. The inmates, who have formed an apocalyptic religious community, greet her with a hostility that intensifies when doubts arise as to what killed her companions. Ripley has brought an alien with her but the planet's inhabitants have no weapons to fight it. We will be showing a rare 70mm print with Finnish and Swedish subtitles of a film partly shot with 65mm cameras. (hjf)
