Can non-romantic love be the weapon of revolution? With her work, the Soviet revolutionary and theorist Alexandra Kollontai (1872–1952) stands for a materialist feminist utopia of peaceful coexistence in a free society, and in recent years her work has again been widely received. Based on Kollontai’s texts and revolutionary reflections on themes such as sexuality, emancipation, and family, AMOR ROJO (Red Love) draws on 20th-century feminist history and merges it with angry and tender scenes from the current Latin American transfeminist movement. In the third part of her cinematic series on Kollontai’s legacy (Love With Obstacles, 2020; If I Could Wish For Something, 2021), Dora García weaves together location footage, archival footage, and poetic images of solidarity.
