BABY I WILL MAKE YOU SWEAT is a highly authentic, aesthetically considered exploration of growing old, the need for sex and tenderness and Jamaica as a place of longing for an old white woman. Filmmaker Birgit Hein records her trip to the Caribbean and her affair with a young Black man on video and writes down her feelings and thoughts to this end. Afterwards, she films this footage on 16mm and thus creates a visual distance to her very personal self-declarations in this travelogue. The Frankfurter Rundschau deemed it “the most courageous film at the festival” at its premiere at the International Forum of New Cinema in Berlin in 1996. On August 6th, radical experimental filmmaker Birgit Hein turns 80. (Anke Hahn)
