There are films for which image-making itself is the subject. In his short comedy LA STATUE ANIMÉE, for example, film pioneer Georges Méliès plays with the idea of what can happen if pictures come to life. In AVTOBUS by Steffen Ramlow and FRAME by Richard Serra, the filmmakers explore what a cutout does to an image. In his second film INTERVALS, Peter Greenaway is interested in the tension between image and sound, and in SERIOUS GAMES Harun Farocki shows that sometimes pictures are needed to rehearse reality. All in all, in all of these experiments with pictures, the question arises of whether the claim of an image that has been made can ever be believed. After the screening, a short happening will take place and a picture-in-picture film experiment will be created with the audience. (af)
