The year is 1964 and Eduardo Coutinho shoots a movie about the life and death of João Pedro Teixeira, a leader of the peasant leagues who was assassinated on the order of local landowners. When the military coup occurs, the crew has to interrupt the project, and comes back to it almost twenty years later, looking for the same places and people. A film that would have been very different if not for political events, CABRA MARCADO PARA MORRER doesn’t just represent a historical period, it was transformed by it. Trying to gather the children of Elisabeth Teixeira, who survives by hiding under a new persona, Coutinho does not refrain from participating in the lives of those he films, and maybe this is the key to his celebrated attentive listening.
