Wed 08.11.
10:00
With Hannah Schmedes, Lena Wassermeier (Wiki Riot Squad); 8. and 9.11., 10am - 2pm
The information published on Wikipedia, the world’s largest internet encyclopedia, is often white and male-dominated, even 30 years after its founding. In a survey conducted in 2018, the Wikimedia Foundation found that only 9% of Wikipedia authors are female. There has been no fundamental change in this percentage to date. This workshop is part of ongoing queer feminist interventions that address this imbalance on the open-source platform. Over two days, we will develop Wikipedia entries in dialogue with the program of feminist elsewheres and the collection of Blickpilotin e.V. (former association for the promotion of feminist film education) – currently being cataloged in the Document Archive at the Deutsche Kinemathek – with extensive materials on filmmakers, feminist film festivals, and productions, as well as grey literature. Together with Wiki Riot Squad, we will search for loopholes and productive violations of the Wikipedia rules and gain insights into the structural problems of Wikipedia and, most importantly, tools for becoming active as editors ourselves. If possible please bring a laptop or something else to write on. (fe)
The number of participants for the workshops is limited, and places will be allocated in the order of registration. Please register by 6.11.2023 by sending an email to workshop.feminist.elsewheres@gmail.com.
