It’s summer at the country house in the Uckermark, where Anna lives with her husband Robert and her son Max. Over the course of the season, several generations of the extensive family will come together. Anna’s daughter Laura arrives from Berlin with her boyfriend Paul and their children. Walks, dips in the nearby lake, and shared meals in the garden promise a beautiful stay. But this seemingly idyllic time doesn’t last for long. Anna’s mother becomes so ill that she needs to be brought to the house to be cared for, and the cracks in Paul and Laura’s relationship become more and more visible. For one summer, these people orbit around one another, at once close and so very far apart. In this isolated location, the simmering conflicts and lifelong illusions erupt once again and threaten to destroy the family’s brittle cohesion once and for all. Thomas Arslan’s summer film FERIEN is also a tribute to actor Uwe Bohm, who died recently. (ah)
