Tampha lives a quiet life with her husband and young daughter in a small community in Manipur, in northeastern India. Suddenly, she begins to behave strangely, talking to flowers, plagued by dizzy spells, and leaving the house at night. Then she answers the call of a deity and joins the Mayi community of priestesses. But behind her immersion in the mystical world of the Maibi is the pain of alienation from her daughter, who is now growing up with strangers.
