Cerro saturno

Vast monochrome expanses of rock perched on top of the world form the backbone of CERRO SATURNO, in which the camera combs this lunar landscape for traces of human existence, slowly finding its way to a city in the mountains and the human faces that inhabit it.

La nature

Artavazd Pelechian’s first film in over 25 years, LA NATURE shows the same unwavering interest in nature and its patterns that have marked the Armenian virtuoso’s entire oeuvre. This monumental found footage disaster movie fuses together black and white images from disparate sources via Pelechian’s inimitably graceful grasp of montage to establish a bird’s eye or even celestial view of the Earth and what happens when it shudders and shakes. Viewed from the heavens, these volcanic eruptions, avalanches, storm surges, tidal waves, hurricanes and tornadoes conjure up a timely vision of a world on the brink, a sobering reminder of nature’s total indifference to human endeavor.
