Los hermanos del hierro

The father rides happily through the landscape with his sons, until a gunshot pulls him from the horse. The proud, now widowed mother brings up her children with a thirst for bloody revenge. When their father’s murderer turns up again one day, the rest of their lives can now finally begin for the now-adult children: as avengers and murderers. One is a psychopath, while the other repeatedly finds himself in dicey situations (also because of his brother), even when he’s not making ends meet as a contract killer because he can’t find any other work… Blood vengeance is one of the central motifs of the Mexican Western. This film is probably one of the most severe treatments of the theme, given extra depth by motifs taken from Oedipus and Media. (om)
