Pastorali

An ensemble on a trip to the country. A group of young musicians from Tbilisi rent a room in a village for a few weeks over the summer so they can practice undisturbed. A series of sometimes ironic, sometimes elegiac vignettes develops from the confrontation of city and country, combining to form a loose plot around rehearsals, arguments, rainy days, conversations, a village festival that ends in a quarrel, and also a cautious amorous bond. Amid all the adversities and different musical styles, it is ultimately the common making of music that holds the small orchestra together, at least at times. (mg)
