TIME FLOWS ALL OVER is a film by the artist Wolfgang Tillmans. In an episodic format, he combines moving image material recorded by him with his own music, field recordings, text and spoken word elements to create a polyphonic structure.
In TIME FLOWS ALL OVER, Tillmans juxtaposes observations of nature and nightlife scenes with camp stagings and collages. The film is as much an exploration of his voice as of his curious eyes. The slow, almost fluid meditative images and cinematic layering create an audiovisual journey in which the surface of the world becomes a resonance chamber for his feelings and thoughts.
In an attempt to locate himself in the here and now, Tillmans finds a new personal language. With a touch of melancholy, underpinned by hope and an understanding of humanity, his song lyrics combine with thoughts that are superimposed over the images in the ‘voice over’ to create a poetic exploration that poses the question of the possibility of understanding the world.
Through his gaze, which is characterised by pictorial precision and an immediate emotionality, Tillmans crafts an arc of time that highlights the visible and tangible differences between film and photography in their respective abilities to reflect time.

Note: A earlier title of the film is given in the printed monthly program.
