Elfi Mikesch’s WAS SOLL’N WIR DENN MACHEN OHNE DEN TOD also belongs on the big screen, an experimental documentary about an old people’s home that uses sound and image montages and dialogues gleaned from listening to the protagonists to make clear to the viewer how dementia feels from within. The terms “dementia” and “Alzheimer’s” are never used, but this moving film makes clear that in loving surroundings, gradually drifting away from reality need not be experienced as a threat.(mk)
