Zorn I (2010–2016) & Zorn II (2016–2018)

Mathieu Amalric filmed New York saxophonist and composer John Zorn, an avant-garde music star, for twelve years. In 2010, he was supposed to shoot a portrait of Zorn for Arte, but the format dictated by the broadcaster fitted neither him nor Zorn. The relationship between the two of them became a friendship. According to John Zorn, Mathieu Amalric is the only filmmaker he allows backstage. The films are happy to show him during his concerts, like a musical set. They do without interviews or background information, simply showing music being created. (bik)
