The voiceover in film: hardly a device seems to be viewed and questioned with greater skepticism. One can’t help but think of films that draw on the infamous “voice of God”, with its patronizing comments, unnecessary explanations and didactic stance. The final Magical History Tour at Potsdamer Platz attempts to carry out at least a partial rehabilitation of this strategy and presents a series of fiction films, documentaries and experimental works that grasp and make use of the voiceover as a distinct artistic, narrative and frequently disconcerting element.
