Book Presentation: Who Says Concrete Doesn't Burn, Have You Tried? West Berlin in the '80s
In October 2006, a group of filmgoers was transported back into West Berlin's past: they gathered at the old Arsenal in Welserstrasse. The seats were gone and the walls repainted, but the curtain and screen were still there. A projector was mounted on some scaffolding. A film was spooled, and on the screen there appeared bicycles moving through a hallway. It smelled of gasoline. The door opened, a motorcycle entered the room, made its way through the confused audience, and disappeared. As part of the 13th Forum at the Berlinale, Stiletto had driven through the auditorium of the Arsenal on a Zündapp Mokick during the premiere of his film Formel Super VII (1983). Déjà-Vu.
