Since the 1990s, Turkish cinema has been experiencing a remarkable comeback. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Zeki Demirkubuz, Reha Erdem, Semih Kaplanoğlu, and Yeşim Ustaoğlu rank as the most important exponents of a new, independent Turkish cinema radiating tremendous power and decisiveness. While independent Turkish films are regularly screened with great success at international festivals, they have difficulty reaching their audience in Germany.
