Casting a Shadow – Creating the Alfred Hitchcock Film
Alfred Hitchcock, born near London in 1899, shot a total of 53 films in six decades. He began his film career as a draughtsman of intertitles for silent films. He then worked as a screenwriter, set designer and assistant director, before he directed his first film in 1927 – in Germany. He managed the transition from silent film to sound film without difficulty. By repeatedly taking technical and artistic risks, he remained innovative throughout his life and had a formative influence on generations of filmmakers.
