In February we will show adventures on land and at sea. KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE (R. Thorpe, USA 1953 | Feb. 21 & 22) is a lavish genre film making “experts in medieval literature tear at their hair” (Int. Lexikon d. Films), but convincing all the same due to its chivalry romance and loads of humor. Nobleman Lancelot and Knight Artus defeat Modred, Artus’ most powerful rival and brother-in-law, whereupon Artus becomes king. On the way to the coronation, Lancelot frees damsel of the castle Genever. She becomes the queen, but her heart belongs to Lancelot. Modred plans a conspiracy. In pictures full of atmosphere, THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (M. Curtiz, USA 1959 | Feb. 28 & March 1) tells the story of the runaway Huck and the escaped slave Jim who travel down the Mississippi to gain freedom. They encounter two frauds who offer a bounty on Jim’s head. Only with lots of courage does Huck succeed in helping Jim.
