HUNGERJAHRE is a movie about adolescence in 1950s West Germany, in which director and scriptwriter Jutta Brückner comes to terms with her own memories. The film is simultaneously a contribution to the gender debate, for Brückner portrays the constraints which her heroine is subjected to as a characteristic feature of women's living conditions in general – exemplarily shown in the figures of the mother and grandmother. The following discussion between Jutta Brückner and Christa Rohde-Dachser (International Psychoanalytic University, Berlin) is dedicated to the meaning of autobiographical filmmaking and the representation of female identities in cinema, moderated by curator Kristina Jaspers. (Dec. 17)
