Temur Butikashvili: Grant Recipient of the Berlin Artist Program of the DAAD
In his films, DAAD grant recipient Temur Butikashvili tells of Georgia in times of radical change, of long-established traditions causing friction with the new lifestyle, and of generations struggling with guilt, atonement and forgiveness. His main focus is on ordinary people, those who possess little or nothing. In SECOND HAND SALE (2007), a moody fridge is the last piece of an inherited inventory left to the protagonist. The woman interested in buying it has pity not only with the threateningly rumbling refrigerator. DIE RÜCKKEHR (The Return, 1994) of a father from prison, on the other hand, confronts him with the disintegration of his family. DIE SCHANDE (The Disgrace, 1992) of a young girl returning from the city to the farmhouse of her parents puts their love to the test. (May 19)
