The Art of Mediation (3): Film mediation and film critique
Films about films are cinematic film critiques. What are the forms of this kind of critique? How do they differ from texts? The program with taz film critic Cristina Nord presents four examples from the WDR series "Filmtip": Michael Althen's review of the basketball film "White Men Can't Jump", Cristina Nord on the venture-capital noir film "Yella" and the melodrama "Brokeback Mountain", a pro-and-con "Filmtip" by Helmut Merker, and Josef Schnelle on "Elephant". The main focus, however, is on Chris Petit's NEGATIVE SPACE (1999), a video essay with and about the eminent American film critic Manny Farber (1917–2008) – a reflection on cinema and video, the vastness of America and European irony. Afterwards, Michael Baute and Cristina Nord will talk about audiovisual forms of film critique.
"The Art of Mediation", a project by Entuziazm e.V., is supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. (Feb. 27)
