There is a parallel film history that can be narrated not by the films themselves but by films about films. Since several years, the American Tag Gallagher, author of major studies on John Ford and Roberto Rossellini, has been producing video essays as accompanying material of DVDs in which an unmistakable auctorial position is formulated. Different material is edited together with the most various interventions in the images of the film itself and thus combined to form a novel, personal film about a film. Three of these solitary essays – on films by John Ford, Roberto Rossellini and Max Ophüls – will be shown in the program and then discussed with Tag Gallagher.
