Since the foundation of our circle of friends, we have been delighted by the growing number of members. As a thank-you for the great support of our work, we invite our sustaining members to a very special exclusive event: the screening plus a live performance of a film that premiered at the Berlinale 2010. The invited artist, Eric de Kuyper, reversed the idea of silent movie accompaniment: In VARIATIONEN AUF GENOVEVA VON ROBERT SCHUMANN, he confronts an existing piece of music with a film specially made for this occasion. The original opera is based on the story of Genoveva of Brabant, the main protagonist of an 8th-century legend. A woman is wrongly accused of adultery, while her husband is fighting in several wars. The theme of sexual passion is cinematically transposed, and the film in turn staged as an opera. The live performance of the music begins with the stairway sequence at the end of the film. The singers in the film and on stage are Olivia Poppe and Adrian Florin Mirza. (March 29)
Persons interested in becoming a member of the circle of friends can do so at the evening box office.
