"Schreiben über Film" is the title of the anthology edited by Stefanie Diekmann and recently published by Kadmos-Verlag dedicated to the work of the film publicist Karsten Witte. As a "passenger" between film critique and film studies, between journalistic, literary, and academic formats, between ephemeral publication sites and established publishing houses/newspapers, Witte ranked among the most interesting representatives of German film journalism from 1970 on. The volume attempts a revaluation of the early deceased author and additionally aims at relating Witte's writing and his reflections on its conditions to the current situation of film critique. We will screen one of his favorite films, Yasujiro Ozu's UMARETE WA MITA KEREDO (I Was Born, But…, Japan 1932).
Afterwards there will be a panel discussion on the special status of film in Witte's writings. (Sept. 17)
