For Swiss filmmaker and opera director Daniel Schmid (1941-2006), cinema was the expression of pure artificiality. The passionate storyteller was always interested more in the legends created by narration than for the reality behind them. Imaginary places and the dreams and illusions leading there played an important role in his filmmaking.
