Only few German-speaking actresses have made an international career, the most famous among them is Romy Schneider, who was born in Vienna in 1938 as the daughter of the movie stars Magda Schneider and Wolf Albach-Retty, who were popular in the 1930s. Already as a teenager, she became famous in Europe in the 1950s for her role as Sissi; in the 1970s she became a celebrated, award-winning star in France, which she remained until her death in 1982.
