We follow the theme of this month's Magical History Tour – Manifestos and Pamphlets – and show François Truffaut's debut, LES 400 COUPS (The 400 Blows, F 1959, age 12 and older, Feb. 6), one of the first movies of the French Nouvelle Vague. Inspired by his own life story, Truffaut tells the story of 12-year-old Antoine Doinel (Jean-Pierre Léaud), who grows up with his mother and stepfather in poor and unloving conditions, goes off the rails and winds up in a penitentiary.
